Start With Me

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Jas 5:16.

Revival starts in the most unseen place. It starts within an individual who is reconciled and restored due to an act born out of humility. Maybe it was a hidden sin. Maybe it was a wrong done to another person. Maybe it was the loss of our first love. Whatever the circumstance, the act of seeking reconciliation with God and with others only comes after humbling oneself before God and seeking that restoration.

Revival may be marked with hard hitting messages and emotional worship music that fosters a ripe environment to usher in a move of the Spirit but the core of revival comes from confession. Acknowledging one’s sin to God, and sometimes brothers and sisters in Christ, sparks a movement of the Holy Spirit. Others see the example demonstrated by one and realize there is restoration waiting for them as well. There is emotion yet substance. It is not a fleeting movement. It has long term consequences and marks another step and milestone in the forward progress of sanctification.

Begin praying now about things that you have hidden away or dismissed as inconsequential. Ask God to reveal them so that you may address them in a humble way. Restoration and a refreshing of your spirit are waiting on the other side.
