Victory In Jesus

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), 1 Jn 4:4.

I was just having this conversation the other day with one of my brothers in Christ that there are so many professing Christians who walk around as victims. It seems like every conversation is about how their struggle with whatever it is changes every week. It’s depressing to listen to. I will acknowledge that struggles are real but if that is all that your life consists of week in and week out then something is wrong. It’s almost as if their identity is in the struggle and not the victory of Jesus.

1 John verses 1-3 speak about worldy spirits and spirits of God. The instruction is to test these spirits to see to whom they belong. The test is this:

Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God

Knowing that Jesus is the Son of God, came in the flesh, in order that he may sacrifice Himself for our transgressions is our profession of faith. It is the gospel. Having faith in this very thing transforms us into children of God. We now have victory in Jesus.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit equips us to carry on Jesus’ teaching and life of love. I don’t belive in losing one’s salvation and being always filled with the Spirit of God ensures victory over the spirits of this world. We must embrace this victory and live from it.
