Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Jn 15:4.
Abiding implies living or life. One cannot bear anything if it is dead and that includes us, spiritually speaking. The abiding is reciprocal in this case. However, Jesus is the fruit producer and we are the fruit bearers.
Galatians 5:22-23 says “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” If men produced fruit (literal) where would we find that factory? Would one factory produce apples and another factory produce oranges? The fact is that we cannot manufacture fruit. The best we can do is manufacture fake fruit.
The fruit of the spirit however, is love, joy, peace….. You get the picture. The spirit produces these characteristics when we “walk in the spirit” as stated in Galatians 5:25.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ga 5:25
Life and abiding in Jesus depend on the Spirit of God and allowing His Spirit to work in us. Without Him there is no life and therefore, no fruit.
