Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Jn 8:12.
How do you rid a room of darkeness? Do you get a shovel and shovel it out? Do you get a vacuum and vacuum it out? Would you curse the darkness? Would you get a broom and try to sweep it out or just use the broom stick to try and beat it out? How would you get rid of the darkness? According to scripture, there is one way. Turn on the light. Just turn on the light!
John 1:5 says: 5 And the light shined in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
The darkness cannot be where light is present. It cannot exist there. Jesus is the light of the world and He also calls us to be light as well. We are only capable of being light bearers because Jesus lives in us.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Jn 1:6–9.
John was to bear witness to the light as we are also to bear witnesses of the light. When we walk in faith and live as Christians ought to live, everywhere we go, light should go with us. This light that we bear makes evident the deeds of the darkness. The darkness flees not by our work but by the light of the world, Jesus.
